I know this morning was hectic to a lot of people including myself. As a parent of two children at separate campuses at PISD I was nervous and aggravated at not having all the details of the situation or an update as timely as I would like, but also understood that it takes time to gather appropriate information and whołe heartedly believed that law enforcement and the school had the best interest of the children at heart. As a part of a governing body that has to make hard and sometimes quick decisions based on information that we may have, but can not release yet it is sometimes hard to understand the negative comments we receive when we truly believe we have done the best we could with the information we have and at the time we are in. As someone that sometimes can fall in both roles at the same time I hope that when I am the critic I keep in mind the following. Likewise when I am being critiqued, I hope, no matter the intentions of the critic I also consider the comments based on the following. Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one. The purpose of constructive criticism is to improve the outcome. In collaborative work, this kind of criticism is a valuable tool in raising and maintaining performance standards. I think we were blessed that today ended up being a non event for Pittsburg, Texas and hope that as my mother said it was a good drill and we come away realizing the good that transpired and make adjustments if needed for the future. Thoughts go out to the actual targeted City and School.
