I know this to be true. When I am injured, my overall mood becomes (a little) grumpy and bummed. I am sure my wife might disagree, (Not). I hate the pain and discomfort that an injury brings. I also hate not being able to run or ride. My only course of release has been upper body workouts at the gym. This does help. However, it isnt the same as running or cycling. After reading multiple articles about depression and injuries, one would think that I have a good grasp on what to expect and how to overcome these negative feelings. And to some degree, I do. But, pulling yourself up by your boot straps (running shoelaces) and doing something about it is very difficult. These feelings can be heavier than any weight or more formidable than an event. So, take the negative out of the issue and enjoy the activities you are able to do. The way you deal with injuries may have an impact on how you deal with set backs. Practicing positive behavior during injuries or set backs will help you preform better in your training and racing. One of the most important parts of a core workout is your mental attitude. A disciplined, positive brain is as important as a strong body. All sports are mental games that transfer to physical output. BH
