I know this will sound controversial, but it isnt. If elite schools really want diversity, then lower the incoming student academic profile. In other words, lower the threshold ACT, SAT, MCAT, LSAT and GRE score necessary for admission. Because inner city primary and secondary schools do not adequately prepare their students, the kids are not ready to meet elite school admission standards. Until alternatives (i.e., Catholic, private and charter schools) to the current public system are mainstream there, that will not change. Cooley Law School lowered its admission criteria, and enjoyed a boom in minority enrollment. Then, it put every kid through the same tough curriculum, and students from all backgrounds did well, until recently, competing according the same standards and passing the bar exam. There is no secret to this, folks. Justice Scalia once said that a school could be elite or diverse, but not both.
