I launched my kayak at 11:30 and went nw to 200ft made bait and collected 3 sandabs. The goal was to go as far as possible till 2:00 and start fishing for halibut till 4:00 at the lastest so I had enough time to be back near Trinidad head by dark. I made it to 245 ft and baited the Godfather rig with sand dabs on the bottom 2 hooks and local caught squid on the top hook. Next I sent the sand dab rig down again and got a few more dabs then baited the 2nd rod with homemade verticle rig with orange and glow hootchies with 16/0 circles baited with CC herring. I used a 24oz scampi jig tipped with local squid and sent it down. Soon after photographing the big sand dabs I caught, the godfather rig rod goes off. I waited a few seconds then picked up the rod and checked to see that it was on. I put it back in the holder and reeled in the other rod while turning and looking as the clicker zzZZZ along for a good little run. After reeling the other rod I put the sand dab rod and other rod out of my lap and behind me in the rod holders. Now I cranked on the halibut bringing it just below the surface before grabbing my weathermans gaff with a large shark hook attached to a bouy and gaffed it at the nose. It shook and banged against the kayak for awhile before I had a chance to slit the gills and stab it between the eyes a few times. It tangled the rope with the godfather rig a but had no chance of leaving the big hook. I got out the wood shampoo and beat it between the eyes several times. The halibut shook some more then I ripped its guts out. I brought into my lap and quickly put it back in the water because it shook again. When it was calm I brought it aboard and put it on the front of the kayak and peddled in. I managed a quick 31 green ling cod on the way in and dropped down a couple more times for a black before snagging my mooching rig with squid. I tried a swimbait in a few spots on the way in and that was it. 43.5 and after gutting and bleeding about 34lbs. I caught it 5.5 miles out on a live sand dab in 248ft of water nw
