I learned something new today, that in Rio de Janeiro, they speak Portuguese! Also, as long as you speak Spanish, slowly, they can usually understand you, but in reverse, the Spanish speaking people, usually cannot understand the spoken Portuguese. Also, I discovered that there are different types of spoken Portuguese (which makes sense, because I know theres different versions of spoken Spanish - for example, Spanish in Spain versus Spanish in Columbia). What really gums up the whole mechanism, is slang!
