I, like millions of others, can remember vividly where and what I - TopicsExpress

I, like millions of others, can remember vividly where and what I was doing when this country was attacked on September 11, 2001. I was sitting in dispatch at Scott & White EMS when I received a call that a plane had hit one of the towers at the World Trade Center. My coworkers and I watched as smoke rolled out of the towers, and wondered if this was an accident. When another plane hit the second tower, we were in shock that this was really happening. We were informed not much later that all aircraft had been grounded, so our helicopter was not able to fly. The flight crew was put on an ambulance to run scene responses with local agencies. A normally busy day turned very somber and we did not run our normal call volume. Driving home, I have to pass through North Fort Hood. It was an experience, a somewhat scary one, seeing military personnel and vehicles at every street accessing Fort Hood. Each and every vehicle and soldier was armed. Tuesday evenings are our training nights at the fire department. I can remember all we did was watch coverage of the attacks. Everyone across this country wondered if there would be more attacks. Thankfully in the past 13 years, there has not been another attack of that magnitude, and we hope there never will be again. We will never forget the attacks of September 11, 2001, and the sacrifices made by those heroic firefighters, police officers, EMS and citizens who perished on that day.
