I live in the North East of England and I am a member of the North East Regional Faiths Forum. Through the NE Churches Regional Commission and the British Council I have been involved in exchanges and developing links with Churches and other faiths in Ukraine. Of course at the moment there is great concern about events in Crimea, particularly their impact on the muslim Crimean Tartar and the Greek Catholic minorities who are already experiencing threats and deprivation of their homes and lands. On visits to Ukraine over the past few years we have visited churches, mosques and synagogues in various parts of Ukraine and seen the positive work going on to develop links between different faiths and denominations. Russia is seeking to create divisions instead of building cooperation. We hope to continue to give Ukraine and its people whatever help we can to building trust.
