I lived in Waldron ,Mo.in the late 70s.Everytime i hear this song it takes me back to there.Almost everything that he sings about happened there. At the end where he sings about a fat barmaid[Marys girlfriend-dont even ask],a cowboy[fit a lot of the patrons of Marys bar]and a dog[Marys dog Hobo-Tim always called him Hobo Hound-actually he was A German Sheppard].It even had a railroad track that ran about 200 yards from my house-that i rented from Mary-i played in a little country band in her bar].Waldron was about 1 mile from the Missouri River. The videos of the small Mo.towns are great[i havent heard of 1 of these towns!]Oh,yeah,Jimmy Buffett did this song and wrote it-its off of his 1973 album Living and Dying in 3/4 Time.Desert island disc.I had this on an 8-Track at the time i lived here.
