“I looked around at life and began envying the wicked for their prosperity. They seem to do just fine the way they are. They don’t struggle. They wear their pride like jewelry. They seem to get everything they want. They speak against God and chide, “Where is God? Does He notice this?” These are the ungodly who prosper in the world, who increase in riches. Sometimes I think I have lived a clean life in vain. All day long I struggle and feel beaten up. I don’t want to say it out loud for fear that I will offend others who trust in you. It hurts to dwell on it but I try to figure it all out anyway. And then I brot the whole matter to God and I began to understand how precarious their lives really are. They are being set up for destruction. And all they have will be gone in a moment. What a terrifying reality they have ahead. This whole thing made my heart heavy – I felt pierced – because I had been so foolish and ignorant – acting more like a beast than a man of God!” It’s a hard way to come to your senses; to come dangerously close to a slip and fall. But any time that we begin focusing on ourselves more than God, any time that the temporary things of this life get in the way of our view of God, any time we take a look at what we have to do more than what He did for us, anything we offer a list of our sacrifices that stand against the offering of His life for us – we are already in trouble. But, as the Psalmist will go on to say, God never let’s go! Even when we are stupid, He keeps us from falling. He keeps our feet from slipping while we are walking our way right into heaven. Our hearts and flesh fail us on the way but God is bigger. Those who trust in God will live to declare His goodness! The longsuffering love of God is an incredible topic. We struggle with it so much because we don’t fully understand “unconditional love.” There are times when our values are measured by wrong things. There are times when we are needlessly anxious and stressed. There are times when it seems it would be easier to let go. But that’s when we find His grip is much stronger than ours! And I, for one, have been glad for that many times in my life! What great things are ahead for those who keep trusting God!
