I looked back to see my status this time last year and it said, A cold spring break is better than no spring break. Well this year I had high expectations for a lovely, warm, relaxing, week. But there is one lesson we continue to learn.... things seldom go as planned for the Jackson 5. Now I am pretty laid back and flexible, so I can usually go with the flow. If you are a list making, schedule planning, not quite as flexible person like Tim, it can be a challenge. Last Saturday night and all day Sunday Tim had a horrible stomach virus. He has not been that sick since we were in Disney World 11 years ago (there are some things you just cant forget even when you wish you could). I was praying he would get better because we had tickets to take the softball team to Knoxville to see the Lady Vols play on Tuesday. Well Sunday afternoon we started getting texts letting us know the game at UT had been cancelled. So disappointing. Monday Sam did well at therapy and then came home to rest. He and I planned to go see the Lady Bulldogs play in Lexington. I got him up to get him ready for the game and noticed he felt very warm. Temp was 101. I thought he might be getting what Tim had, so we stayed home. Sam fell asleep in the early afternoon and slept most of the night. He still didnt feel well on Tuesday, but had no other symptoms except fever. Later in the afternoon I found the abscess and was suddenly thankful we were not in Knoxville. Tuesday night and Wednesday night of Spring break were spent at Hotel LeBonheur where we had an all inclusive bedroom suite complete with IV antibiotics and a surgical procedure. On the way home, our accessible van broke down and only by the grace of God did we make it home. We know now that a valve spring broke, which means nothing to me, like a foreign language. But I understand that it isnt good, and might be really bad. So right now, we really dont have a way to get Sam anywhere easily. He cant go to school this week anyway, because he still has an open wound, but we will have to improvise when taking him to therapy. Saturday, thanks to two special friends, some of my spring break was salvaged. They treated me to lunch, I got to lay on a $7,000 massaging mattress at Coffmans Furniture Store and had my very first HaliHannigans cup cake. Then when I got home, I found a snake in my tulips. So now that I put it all in words, I guess if nothing else, my spring break was eventful and unusual. And that is still better than no spring break!
