I love Mississippi. It is my home. It is the one place I feel like I am completely safe. To be honest though I felt none of this when I moved away 4 years ago. I was glad to leave and told Christopher I never wanted to come back except to visit. It all changed though slowly over time. I came to miss the sunshine and bipolar weather. I came to miss the rustle of the trees right before a big thunderstorm moved in. I came to miss the diversity of people I would see in a 5 minute span that would make some peoples head spin. I came to miss the food, the mouth-watering food. I came to miss the music that permeates our very being. I came to miss the Art that is celebrated everywhere. I came to miss kindness of strangers and how you could meet your best friend for life by standing in line at the grocery store. I came to miss the Southern drawl that warms my heart and makes me smile. I came to miss driving through the backroads and seeing the beauty our states landscape has to offer. I came to miss the multitude of small locally owned businesses that give so much more than any big chain can where service is concerned. I came to miss how Mississippians stand up for and stand next to those being discriminated against. See that last sentence? It is so very true. Look at our history and you will see in the last 50 years we have a strong history of standing up against discrimination. That will not change now. We will not give up and we will not give in. Mississippi feeds my soul. I love it. Once I realized all of this I begged Chris to bring me, to bring us, home to Mississippi. We came home. We came home to Mississippi and everyone in it. We came home to Mississippi and our hearts were whole again. We came HOME. I will never stop fighting for the state I love and the people in it. I will fight against discrimination. I will fight for women and families rights to choose their own medical decisions. I will fight and fight and fight. I will fight because I love Mississippi and every one in it. Whos with me?
