I love airplanes – the roar of jet engines – watching them - TopicsExpress

I love airplanes – the roar of jet engines – watching them soar in the sky with no safety-net except for the hand of God. I like living across the Bay from Tampa airport. This morning I watched a silver beauty emerge from the dark, storm-cloud, filled sky. I thought – Oh, to be a pilot of one those beauties! I think I would have loved being a pilot. That feeling of the wheels on the runway and them picking up speed - traveling faster and faster down the runway – feeling it, even the bumps - and more and more speed – greater power – more strength forcing me back into my seat – watching the world begin to speed by the window – feeling the wheels leave the ground – lift off with the nose of the plane lifting upward and continuing to do so – hearing Willie Nelson bellowing out, “Ill fly away,” and the feel of the plane making a circle to correct its course and eventually leveling off – along with the adrenalin that has been surging through my body. The view – seeing the Heaven-side view of the clouds – puffy, billowing, marshmallow-like clouds – just the way they look from the earth-side. Or breaking through the darkened storm-clouds to burst forth into the sun and hearing the Beatles singing over and over - out of my head and out of my heart - “Here comes the the sun. Here comes the sun. And its all right.” And it is. God calls us to come up higher in the Spirit, eagerly awaiting time spent with us and where we can see things from His perspective. Like not making mountains out of mole hills – looking out the airplane window, mountains do not look much larger than a mole hill. Snake-like rivers slithering through the landscape – reminding us the rivers of our lives do that. There is not straight-away in the river of life – we follow the twists and turns. We are grateful the Lord has promised to not let these rivers overtake us and He is there – always there to walk through them with us when we ask Him to. The huge fields that look like nothing more than small squares – the patch-work of our lives; the different field of experience the Lord has used to shape and mold us into the person He created us to be. The view from the top – a Gods-eye view...where the urgency of the concerns of earth dont seem as urgent as it did under our microscopic mentality. The higher we rise, the bigger our God grows and we know He is in control – He is the Creator who keeps it all together. A place where we can see the solitary prayers begin to join in the atmosphere – appearing like clusters of stars in the heavens – and are bits of life being drawn in the throne room of God. The hands of angels reaching out to grasp these star-lighted prayers and accepting their assignments as God gives His stamp of approval. You can feel it as the plane begins to descend, the pressure, the cares of this world. The houses, with the pressures of upkeep and mortgages get bigger. Vehicles and the pressures of their upkeep and expenses become more life-sized. You can see the people now – small and fragile – some stooped under the weight of responsibilities. Some walking around with pieces of their hearts missing – cowering from the effects if abuse. Although we can feel the atmospheric pressure as we continue to descend, we are not close enough to see what the people are dealing with, they are well hidden. The closer we get to earth, we still do not see. “Fasten your seat belts please.” Our slow-motion decent become thrilling and we feel the wheels touch down. Back on the runway and feeling the power that so easily lifted us up. I could ride like that for hours, and alas, we slow and taxi to the terminal. Back home – to the familiar....heart still racing from having flown with God. Having basked in His never-ending love – His peace – His vision. Reliving the thrill of God sharing, with me, His view from the top. I eagerly anticipate our next flight and the destination of His heart. On earth as in Heaven.
