I love how they said the snake is almost 2 meters....It looks like its barely over 1 meter, if that. Unless they cut off a ridiculous amount of its body and its a super thin brown snake. (2 meters is about 6ft in case you were wondering.) Its just so sad how ignorant people are. Even if a snake is venomous, that is not a reason to kill it. Put distance between yourself and the snake, and get any children and pets away from where it is. Call a professional to capture and release the snake elsewhere. There are services out there, and it would seem like there would certainly be quite a few services to call considering the amount of venomous species are present in Australia. You are just making yourself MORE likely to get bit and die trying to handle or kill the snake than if you left it alone. Its most likely just going to stay where it is. Not to mention every single native snake species is protected by federal law in Australia (where this was taken), so now theyre a federal criminal. Even if a child or pet IS bitten, that is not an excuse to kill the snake. Animals do not understand vengeance, and you would be accomplishing nothing but getting yourself bit as well. I dont know about anyone else, but putting myself in danger trying to kill a snake that is easy to avoid isnt worth going to prison. But, even beyond that. Calling snakes disgusting animals that are dangerous to us is quite insulting. There are a plethora of harmless species, and they are not disgusting. Take some time to learn a few facts about your disgusting creature and you may learn they arent what you think they are. You may not come to love them, but at least respect them as an animal. Heck, the anger at the ignorance and hatred of the poster and the people standing up for them is enough to make me almost overlook they called them poisonous. Sure, in the dictionary the meanings of poisonous and venomous can be interchangeable. But, in Biology they are two completely different things, and are not used interchangeably. Context is key. i.imgur/OBQSxoB.jpg
