I love it when these before they were famous gems emerge. We tend to forget that before they were Mega-Stars they were awkward little teens like you and I once were. Taylor swift appears in what was obviously a middle school video project. She is credited rather indifferently as Island Girl 1. What is remarkable about the clip is not that is so bad, (which is to be expected from a middle school project from a rather forgettable institution somewhere in Pennsylvania) its that it reveals the awkward awkward awkward pre-starlet Swift in a rather humanising way. We rarely get to see the mortifying evidence of a super star in their pre-immortal faze. Evidence that they were human or flawed or had pimples are deleted from their history by them and their agents and managers and publicists long before we can search them out and expose them for the mere mortals they are. But when these little gems do occasionally emerge organically it serves as a reminder of two things we readily forget: 1. They are not demigods. 2. Anyone can make it big. Yes, now as then tis simple truth: Before they were bootylicious they were just ambitious. Before they were Jenny from the block, they were Jenny and the flock. Before there was murder on the dance floor, there was just misadventure of the misfits. And before she was Taylor Swift, she was Island Girl 1 on the cast list.
