I love my job. I love my work family. I have so much respect for the rolls my officers, firefighters, and first responders play in this world. I am fortunate enough to know these people and their personalities on a daily basis. Each one unique in their own way. I am also the one who hears how the officer was rude or the fireman drove too fast or the EMS wasnt quick enough. However you dont see what the policeman firefighter or first responder dealt with prior to assisting you. You have no idea what they have been through or are going through. So do me a favor....the next time you complain or curse about one of them stop and think. They do this job for YOU. I have seen the heartbreaking look in their eyes today. The self doubt rising up inside them. Was I quick enough? Did I do enough? What could I have done differently? I saw those looks today from my guys. Its a look Ive seen twice before in my 14 years at Hollywood....and it rips me apart. So before you cuss the cop that wrote you that ticket...gripe that the firefighter couldnt save your house....or complain that the responders were too slow...ask yourself if you really want to know what Hell theyve walked through that day. Believe me you dont. To my officers and volunteers...you are in my prayers. Im proud of you all and consider myself blessed to be a small part of what you do. Much love.
