I love my playlist. I seriously do, and I know a lot of you guys do too. Still, we have to face the possibility of me having to switch play lists in the near future because of the incoming copyright changes by twitch. I know a lot of you are angry at the changes, but isnt this a good thing? Try thinking about Radio for a second - they need the rights to play the music they broadcast before hand. With Television, things are even worse. If you want to use a track by Guns N Roses on a live show, you have to prepare yourself to pay THOUSANDS of dollars, not just a couple of bucks. Radio and TV is mainstream media people. They have to obey to the copyright laws in effect and Twitch doing the exact same thing isnt a cheap shot to the community who has supported them, its a necessary step to make Twitch and even streaming in general more professional. Its a necessary step to prevent streamers from getting sued by bigger companies, and its a necessary step for Twitch to be taken seriously at all, as well as every single streamer who uses the platform. Think about it - Why would Twitch implement something like this thatll potentially lose them a lot of money in the first place? Because they absolutely have to. Theres just no way around it. Whether they are being bought by Google or not. With all of this being said, the system that is in place right now needs adjustment. People are getting flagged and muted for ingame sounds, youre getting muted even if youre using a song that you own, etc. Thats the problem, but they are working on fixing it. Also, and this is part of the fundamental issue with copyrights these days, is that the Copyright Law is terribly outdated. If Im not mistaken (and you guys can correct me here if Im wrong) but the copyright law hasnt been touched since 2002. Were in 2014. Doesnt seem like a long time but everything has changed. The internet has changed, the way we share content has changed as well, so the law should be rectified accordingly. The problem here is - Probably not going to happen considering all the greedy multi-billion dollar companies out there that would do everything they could to wreck such a proposal. Still, and this is where I stand - Twitch is doing what they have to do. The system isnt perfect and still needs to be improved, and it absolutely sucks that Ill probably have to stop using my play list when I go live in the near future, but I understand these changes and I respect them. I know a lot of you are taking a stand against Twitch right now and youre within your own right to do so. The only thing that I ask here is that you think about these changes and not just the negatives. Think about the positives as well. PS: Im with you guys. If one day Twitch is no longer great to visit for the community or me, Ill gladly join another streaming website that we can all enjoy a lot more. You guys get to decide how my stream evolves, dont forget about that. TL;DR - Sorry about the WoT ; Twitch is not that bad ; necessary step towards the future ; system sucks but it was inevitable ;
