I love that no matter how much I think I know about music Im always discovering decades-old work that I never knew existed. Why am I just now hearing about Jobriath? Apparently, Im not the first one whos had this problem. Morrissey tried to get Jobriath to open for him in the early 90s only to discover that he died of AIDS ten years before. This particular album was recorded in 1971 but never released until last week. The P4K review does a good job at telling you who Jobriath was exactly and why hes important, though just listening to the album will do the same. Fans of glam, early Bowie, early Elton, musical theatre, Nilsson, Newman, or historic gay culture should especially take note.
