I love the *idea* of this video, but not what its showing. My derby sister, Shelia, said what I was thinking when I watched it: Cool concept.... If only roller derby was really that hot. I can smell the perfume from here.. Wheres the arm pit hair, the unshaved legs, the real womens bodies (ok, not all of us fall into the unshaved part, but its real!) You KNOW a locker room full of derby gear smells like road kill. We shoved four of us into my Jeep after an event and Im sure you could smell us a mile away. I like the idea of this video, but the execution sucks. Ive known and had the pleasure of skating with teachers, nurses, midwives, housewives, social workers, armed forces, underwater welders, veterinarians, physical therapist, physical trainers, practically homeless, business owners, artists.... The list goes on and on. The video catapults derby stardom like Whip-it did. Dont get me wrong, Im glad derby is in the limelight, but dont hide the nitty gritty, thats the part we love.
