I love the old classic War movies even though much of it was/is propaganda... This evening I checked out an old WW2 spy thriller with Donald Sutherland... He is a Nazi agent who gets stranded on a remote scarcely populated Scottish Isle while trying to rendevouz with a German U-Boat... After securing valuable intelligence about the D-Day invasion of Europe (France)... He is rescued and taken in by a crippled ex fighter pilot and his beautiful but unhappy wife... In less than a day the swarthy agent has the wife engaged in a full blown affair...While her suspicious husband tries to discover the true identity of this mysterious ship wrecked stranger... With him being a cripple having very slow and limited mobility....concealing the affair from her husband is all too easy The seducing Nazi agent even asks her in amazement if she even feels guilty... And she defiantly says No! The husband and the spy take a drive together to visit another island resident...But en route he confronts the agent with his suspicions... And of course the Nazi agent kills him... The agent returns home and informs the wife that her husband has opted to stay at his friends and get drunk rather than come home...and feeling resentful and justified she rushes into his deceitful arms... The next more she decides to go for a walk with her son along the sea shore and discovers her dead husbands body along the rocky shore... She rushed home to report this only to kind that her mystery lover is not there...And when he does return he tells her that her husband is still at his friends and has began another day of drinking which will afford them hours of undisturbed love making... Now her resentful justification is replaced by terrible fear and horror as she has to make love to the man who she suspects has killed her husband and the father of her child....who will also surely kill her if he even thinks she knows... How long can she maintain the ruse as British agents close in where abouts...How long will she have to be his lover or his victim... Which she now realizes to be almost one in the same.... The suspense unfolds....
