I love the people I work with..... Just got this email and am about to volunteer: The LSC is interested in the potential of the popular game Minecraft (https://minecraft.net/), that we can use as an educational tool for children to learn about relativity. Those LSC members who have young children will have already heard from them about Minecraft. It is not just a game, but also a platform, so that new behavior can be added through mods. In the last EPO telecon we have talked about building such a mod that demonstrates special and/or general relativity. The model here is Qcraft (qcraft.org/), a mod that educates children about quantum mechanics. Qcraft is a collaboration between Caltech, Google, and Minecraftedu (minecraftedu/), and has been getting a lot of good press. The leader of that effort at Caltech (Spiros Michalakis) is enthusiastic about connecting the LSC with the right people to make this project fly. So the LSC-EPO is looking for enthusiastic people to (a) help brainstorm about what this relativity mod might do, and (b) drive the project, bring the pieces together, build enthusiasm, get partners, manage and write code. :-))) Yes!!! That line made me laugh -- it is not just a game, but also a platform.... Have a fun, nerdy day friends!! hahaha Physics + Dance forever~
