I love this from our Bible Study Fellowship notes from last week: You can refuse the cross and all that Jesus died to win for you. You can choose to live for yourself. However, if you live only to express yourself, even with a good purpose, you will never discover your true self as God created you to be. Apart from believing in Jesus and His death on your behalf, you carry your own sins; your sins warp your thinking and feeling, and weaken your power to act. Sometimes we hear things that encourage us to believe that a Christian can sin virtually consequence-free, because there is always forgiveness in Christ. But look what we lose: the purpose God created us for, warped thinking, warped feeling, and weakened power to act. We feel the burden of sin. We also lose the joy of knowing the Fathers pleasure and being in peace with Him. In addition, there is the negative effect on others that flesh always leaves. What cherished sin is worth all this? For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:26
