I love working at home. Perfect for writing and grading, which never get done on campus. I recently moved my office to the attic (a lovely space, but thats another story), and Im still getting used to it. Sometimes, when I swivel my chair, it opens the sliding door behind me, which leads to an eave full of the usual stuff. I noticed at one point that this had occurred, so I shut it. Some time later, I started hearing noises in the eave, and I immediately thought, Critters. The house is old (1890), and even though we redid all the walls, electrical, &c., Im always on the lookout for furry friends. I make a note to check later. An hour or so passes; Im lost in my work. Suddenly, I hear scratching at the door, right behind my feet. I slowly peeled off the ceiling, like a misguided pancake, and recalling all my old animal control training, slide the door open. Out trots the cat, who mustve sneaked in during the brief period when the door was left open. I love working at home.
