I loves writing. It is so nice that other mortals enjoy the stuff I write. I think my first writing was at Herbert Hoover Junior High. For some reason, that was the unofficial name, it wasn’t really a junior high....okay. But, I was in Mr. Wayne’s school newspaper class. I wrote my first report, something about a shop class and it was about four sentences long. “Wally, this isn’t long enough. We need more information. Write it again.” I did rewrite it and there, at that moment, I decided that I liked writing. I wrote a few Christmas stories, one based on a story that was in the middle of a Classics comic book that told of the origin of Santa Claus. I didn’t copy it, I remembered it, and it told how Dutch children in America pronounced Saint Nicholas as Sant Ni Class, and that became Santa Claus. Mr. Wayne promoted me to Editor of the school paper. In those days, and since, I have drawn cartoons and things, and found that telling a story with words is much faster and less work than drawing the story. I still like drawing, but it is true, writing is easier.
