I made this comment on a post lamenting about how people speak Christianese to someone who has a headache... I actually agree with you to an extent on speaking Christianese. IT IS WELL! If we look at the story of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4, her only son just died (verses 18-37), I believe there is a lot to learn. When her husband asked her what was up, her response was IT SHALL BE WELL. Her husband couldnt help at this point so there was no point telling him about the dead boy. When Gehazi saw her and asked her what was up, her response was IT IS WELL. Gehazi couldnt help her either so no need wasting valuable time discussing issues with Gehazi. When she got to Elisha, she caught him at his feet and said nothing to him for a long time. When she finally spoke, she wasnt speaking Christianese, please. She poured it all out as it was. I get irritated when Christians get to the place of help and they start speaking Christianese. I liken it to getting to the hospital and then refusing to tell the doctor the symptoms youre feeling. I believe you should let it out as it is. And the counselor should JUST LISTEN! Thats not the time to start teaching the person about how to TALK RIGHT bla bla bla. Like Elisha, JUST LISTEN! When they are done pouring out, get to the miracle PLEASE! Cut out the sermon at that point please... Having said that, I believe that talking right as a believer is KEY. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21) We can also refer to Ezekiels experience in the valley of dry bones. (Ezekiel 37) God asked Ezekiel if the dry bones could live again. Ezekiel told God that He only knows. The bones were VERY dry. Yet God told Ezekiel to PROPHESY to the dry bones. It wasnt God that spoke to the dry bones; it was Ezekiel that spoke to the dry bones. Ezekiel spoke as he was commanded. The bones were VERY DRY when Ezekiel told the bones to hear the Word of the Lord. Yet we didnt read about Ezekiel going about telling people that the bones were very dry. He spoke to the bones AS THE LORD COMMANDED! Let us look at Jesus and the fig tree in Matthew 11:13-14, 20-26 Jesus was hungry and He chose to eat from THAT fig tree. What Ive always found interesting is that verse 14 says Jesus ANSWERED and said to the fig tree. What exactly did the fig tree ask Jesus that caused Him to answer? I believe whatever situation one is dealing with is asking us questions and what we SAY is our answer... Jesus was the one that said that we will have WHATSOEVER we ask without doubting in our hearts. As shocking as it may sound, He did not put the condition of Gods will here. All I can read is that one does not doubt in his/her heart, you will have what you SAY. He said WHATSOEVER you desire...That seems quite risky...I suspect thats why He had the condition of forgiveness in verses 25-26, otherwise, enough people will have FINISHED their enemies. I believe that we can change impossible situations with the prayer of faith, for as long as it does not involve the will of another or something that is in Gods jurisdiction (e.g. Rain, Getting a child etc). In the cases that involve things that God has not put in our jurisdiction, we petition God, leave it with Him and let Him do it when He will do it. In all cases, though, I believe that our talk should line up with the Word of God. I havent seen anything in the Word that encourages me to HAVE a headache. The way I see it, when the symptoms of the headache comes, thats the devil knocking. Its up to me to decide whether to let it in or shut it out. God has put me in charge of what I allow or disallow in MY body. After all said and done, if you need to take medicine for whatever youre feeling, please be responsible enough to take it...And you should be careful what you say to someone dealing with a challenge...All the scriptures make no sense to them at that point...Care enough to visit them, pray with them, encourage them. As they are getting stronger, you can then begin to talk to them about building their faith!
