I make a point to attend many community events and speak at our schools to youth about the dangers of substance abuse. My office has partnered with local businesses and the National Child Safety Council to get substance abuse literature out to our families. This past spring I taught segments of Project LEAD to 5th grade students to help them better understand the need for laws, the role of the legal system, and their rights as juveniles. According to the Purdue Extension Office, this training was proven to be effective in changing the attitudes of the students regarding the law and the legal system in a positive direction.
