A professor I once had named Kermit Harrison once asked “If you walk in the woods and you see ten people lined up against a wall and a man with a gun. The man tells you pick one to die and the other nine will live or walk away and all will die and your hands will be clean what do you decide? I believe the working class people of this country are the ones who took the bullet. Let’s analyze, military technicians are currently on furlough that means for the next three months they are allowed to work only 80 percent of the time meaning they lose 20 percent of their paycheck. Also not only are the military taking cuts where people like me may get hit also small business are required to pay more taxes. Here is where the bullet was fired. Big corporations like General Electric and Bank of America have billions of profit in tax havens in the Caribbean and have been documented not paying federal income taxes for the past few years. However the federal government gave some these corporations like General Electric 2.5 Trillion in bailout money. To give you an idea Information from Citizens for Tax Justice •The oil and gas exploration company Apache, which paid no tax on $7.6 billion in pretax income over five years, enjoying a $169 million tax rebate over that period. •Health-care giant Tenet Healthcare, which hasn’t paid a dime of federal income tax on $905 million in U.S. income over the past five years, receiving a tax rebate of $51 million. •In the airline sector, Southwest Airlines paid no federal income taxes on $673 million in U.S. income last year, and actually received an income tax rebate of $45 million. •The Principal Financial Group, an investment services provider, which avoided all federal income taxes on its $919 million in 2012. •Ryder System, which provided truck rentals and services, paid a negative 2.3 percent federal income tax rate in 2012 and a negative 4.7 percent rate since 2008. •The Interpublic Group, a marketing and communications firm, also had negative tax rates both in 2012 and over the five-year period. We took the bullet while these corporations walk free. We are at war with the social injustice of this economic guerilla war.
