I met Robin Williams at Dangerfields when I was 20 years old in 1979 and I was meeting him as Miss New York State by my handler who was friends with him. It was suppose to be a photo opportunity for publicity. He shook my hand, smiled at me and then proceeded to get on stage and make fun of beauty pageants and me. It was all very funny but I actually was young and shy then and got embarrassed and slipped out before the photo OP. A few weeks later I was in line at Dangerfields with a friend to see Rodney Dangerfield. The line was long and I remember shivering. It was cold. A limo pulled up and out steps Robin Williams. As he walked past the line he started signing autographs so everyone started holding out their hands except me. I froze. When he got to me he looked up, got a big grin on his face, grabbed my arm and quickly walked me to the head of the line and told the cashierMiss NY is with me. Inside the doorway he paused put his finger under my chin. Like a chin up motion and politely disappeared into the crowd. I was in shock! And then I realized that my girlfriend was still way back in line so I just stood there and waited for her. We managed to get a seat at the bar and Dangerfield was awesome that night! Robin was apparently back stage but we did not stay long to see if he went on. I guess we thought we were too cool. I saw Robin again maybe a year or two later when he headlined at Carolines. That night he did not make fun of me plus I had grown up a little too and had a thicker skin. And he was awesome!
