I met a woman yesterday, a student of Shira Tarrant, whos active - TopicsExpress

I met a woman yesterday, a student of Shira Tarrant, whos active in her community in Compton. Shes part of a group staging town halls and protests because, over the summer, the Compton school board voted to allow school security guards to carry ASSAULT RIFLES in schools. She tells me the initiative took effect this week. A) This is nuts. But B) Why is the Los Angeles Times not all over this!? I spent time in Compton back in 2009, reporting for Newsweek about how the community had worked tirelessly to lower its crime rate and shed its violent image. The people there were amazing. I wish I could do this piece, but freelancing sucks because, among other things, I dont have an outlet for stories that no longer fall under my beat. Somebody: do this story. Ive got documents and contacts. I can share them. newsweek/how-compton-got-its-groove-back-76361
