I met with a Southern Baptist pastor this afternoon and got baptized again. It happened at Kingsville Baptist Church. Heres what happened: I joined a group of fellow pastors from various backgrounds, including Southern Baptist, and we met at the Church on The Rock. We had a wonderful time of prayer from 2:00 until shortly after 4:00 this afternoon. But near the end as we were praying pretty earnestly, the thunder got louder and louder. Then I decided to head out on my motorcycle because it wasnt raining on East Yeager Road in Ball. But when I turned onto Highway 165 heading south, it started to come down. By the time I reached Kingsville Baptist, I decided to seek shelter, so I turned off, circled their buildings and found their crosswalk. Wonderful! I thought, Safe at last. However, just then the wind really picked up, and the rain began to pour in sideways. A half minute later, I put it in gear and let out the clutch: Better getting wet while riding rather than sitting here getting wet, and I have prayer meeting to lead in an hour and a half. Once I pulled out, I really got wet, as wet as if I had been fully immersed -- seriously, my wallet and cell phone, every stitch of clothing and my boots filled up with water -- they did it -- I got immersed again on Kingsvilles parking lot. The worst spot was near Central State Hospital, shortly before the O.K. Allen-Mangun-Coleman-Curtis Bridge: it was raining so hard that the red dirt had broken loose and a river of red mud was flowing across 165. Someway, somehow, I rode through that mess, with lightening popping all around me. I made it back to Grace, pulled into the covered parking spot on the side of our sanctuary, ran across the street, grateful for a hot shower and a change of clothes. Then I ate supper and led our prayer time. I came back in here to get my boots back on before heading home.
