I missed getting info out yesterday so will endeavour to get the info posted today. Penalty rates are driving small businesses to the wall in this country, where I live on public holidays going to a restaurant or out for a coffee unless you go to a food court in a major shopping centre forget it. I’m not one for Boxing Day sales but this year there were a couple of things that were just too good to miss, chatting to a young fellow on the check out at Big W he informed me the only reason he was there was because of the penalty rates. He would have been twenty years of age at most and I said to him but you have such a long way to go and his reply was there has to be another way besides work. When I was his age I had three jobs. Penalty rates have driven businesses offshore, they are driving private enterprise out of this country and eventually we will not have a choice on where to shop. The only people who benefit from penalty rates is the unions and they manage to live a life of luxury while those thinking they must have penalty rates can’t figure out why they haven’t got a job. theage.au/business/employers-step-up-efforts-to-get-rid-of-penalty-rates-20150102-12gylv.html
