I mostly keep my mouth shut about politics these days. I know most of you dont care, and Net Neutrality is just a buzz word to you. Its something on the news that doesnt really affect you. But it does affect you. And its important. For years major communications providers have cooperated with one another to collectively screw you over. In this country you pay three times the price of any other first world country for internet, while ranking number 31 in speed. They accomplish this by staying out of each others way so they can charge you whatever the hell they want without having to compete for your business. And now theyre trying to molest the free market further, by throttling everyone who doesnt buy into their fast lane garbage. In laymans terms, imagine that you have an idea. A world changing idea, worth billions, and you want to share it with everyone. But you wont be able to because elbow-rubbing corporations have cooperated to establish a system that is financially unviable for newcomers. Now return your viewpoint to that of the consumer. What does this mean for you? Well, it means more of the same. Corporations exchanging favors, stifling any creativity that isnt born in their own brain trust. It means you keep paying more for less because we let these people eliminate the even playing field for creative geniuses all across our country. And if you dont believe that fact, all you have to do is look at the statistics I mentioned before about the price we pay versus the speed we get. Theyre already doing this, and now they want to expand their reach. You cant let this happen. I cant let this happen. The internet is a resource for everyone, where at any moment you can access any information you please. And theyre trying to turn it into TV, controlling what you get to see and when. Who gets to speak and what they get to say. They want to control the free market, secure their place at the front, and damn the rest of us. Raise a stink. Spread the word. Because if we dont, our direction as a people will forever be decided by a select few who only care for themselves and the bills in their pockets. One of the founding principles of this nation is that everyone gets a fair chance. Dont let them take that away from us.
