I need help! Backstory: These are my two boys. The cat I have had for 10 years and the dog (Max) since last October. Max is 18 months old and really energetic but well behaved. When I first got Max, he was insecure and malnourished from previous home but generally in good behavior. It was awesome, I had my first dog and I had all the energy and time in the world to train him to be the best. It was all good. Until he met the cat. My sweet pup turned into a demon dog. Staring, growling, angry barking and lunging toward the cat which ran outside in fear. We thought it would stop when he got used to the cat but it didnt. We got tips from a dog trainer, tried distracting him with happy voices and treats when he was starting to stare at the cat. But every time he started staring, it was impossible to get his attention. My (usually) greedy lil dinosaur IGNORED the treats completely. Weve done lots of bonding time where the cat lies on the sofa and Max gets treat for being still and not growling (which is kind of impossible). And now, almost 10 months later, its exactly the same and its driving us mad. We constantly have to watch whos in which room and make sure Max doesnt see the cat. We dont want our poor old family cat to get a heart attack one day because of this! ALL tips greatly appreciated
