I need help with a paradox. I have two very deep and very contradictory beliefs: 1) It is never the responsibility of the oppressed to reach out to/sympathise with/try to understand the oppressor. 2) It is, however, necessary for the activist to do those very things towards the people they are trying to persuade. Issues: 1) I refuse to categorically reject either of these beliefs, although Im open to suggestions to modifying them. 2) I know that persuasion targets dont automatically equal The Oppressor but...* also 3) Theres a difference between observers admonishing the oppressed in their struggle and an activist admonishing their comrades, but...* *the differences articulated in issues 2 and 3 are still somewhat nebulous in my mind, and even accounting for these, I still feel the paradox is unresolved. I would really like everyones thoughts.
