I need numbers: How many real estate transactions were done in Quebec in 2013? How many mortgage brokers are we? If my guess is correct we should be getting 100 referrals each per year. Why not? 80% of my clients ask me if I can refer them to a real estate broker for their listing or property hunt. Its very frustrating. FACT: Our president of OACIQ is Serge Brousseau FACT: He is also the owner of Remax du Cartier, the agency that does approx 50% of all the real estate deals in Montreal. FACT: Desjardins and BNC have offices inside the agency and the brokers are STRONGLY recommended to do business with them. I dont need to understand why deals should be referred to a real estate broker and how the insurance protects the public. Im not PRO broker, I AM A BROKER! I went to Stéphanes Pagé conference last year on How dealing without a real estate broker is dangerous and oh so dramatic. I think we should ask him to do one on mortgage brokers, we are protected by the same insurance after all. At the end of the day, its the clients that decide. Everytime DuProprio market shares go up, they are saying LOUD and CLEAR: You are not worth the commission. They need to know why theyre paying 5%. We need to INCREASE the value of our services package deal to their eyes instead of talking commission. Referring to a Mortgage broker is part of that package deal. Physical banks and going to the branch to do your mortgage thing is NOT the future. Most banks have their mobile forces and online ressources. They see that coming. Its very expensive to have a branch nowadays, especially when the sales arent coming in. I rest assured and confident that mortgage brokers and our market shares will continue to go up. Unfortunately, it seems like the tide is not going that direction for our colleagues Real Estate brokers. I hope that well COLLABORATE and find ways to work this out as a team and as a profession.
