I need to update you on Sally Paddles. When she went to her new home with Jan she started out by doing well but in a few days Jan had brought home two Dachshund puppies that she had planned to pick up months in advance. Once the puppies arrived on the scene Sally Paddles seemed to shut down and would not get out of bed or eat or drink. She was taken to Dr. Doering to try and figure out of there was anything physically wrong with her, she did some x-rays and found some calcification on one of her discs in her back and put her on some muscle relaxers. Jans daughter Ashley is a friend of Travis and she offered to take her to her house because she was closer to emergency in case that was needed and then something incredible happened. This from Ashley: I have a pack of 8 dogs and 5 of them are dachshunds and theyre a pretty calm and easy going pack. I did a slow introduction and I allowed my dogs to see Sally through a baby gate and everyone seemed to be very comfortable with her and so I opened the gate and allowed my dogs to meet her and Sally started wagging her tail excitedly and when I walked everyone outside she followed and when we all came back in she went to the water bowls and started to drink and when I offered her food she ate it without hesitation. I was really shocked to see how different she was acting because I had spent the entire day with her at my parents house and in only 20 minutes of being at my house... she did a complete 180. I have a ramp attached to my king size bed so all of my dachshunds can get on and off the bed safely and so Sally got to sleep in the bed that night. I share my pillow with her because she wants to sleep very close to my head. The next day she was running around the entire acre of back yard and playing with my dachshunds like a normal dog. I called my parents to give them an update and they were shocked to hear the news. I also gave Travis the update and he seemed very amused because he knows how Happy-Go-Lucky my pack is and he was extremely happy to hear Sally was back to normal. I honestly think Sally started to have a little PTSD once the dachshund puppies arrived at my parents house because I was there for the introductions and she looked up at me like, I dont have to nurse these do I?!?! Lol! So Im happy to say that with the approval of Lone Star Rescue, Sally Paddles has adopted me and my pack and we are thrilled to have her as part of the family!
