I never post about anything too serious or private on here but today will be a little different. As some of you may know from photos that I posted in 2012, my wife was pregnant about a year and a half ago. Unfortunately, to put it simply, it did not work out. I never addressed it on here because I never felt that Facebook was the proper forum to discuss such a private matter. However, my wife and I recently discovered a documentary film project that we feel strongly enough about to break our silence and reach out to others to help get the word out. This film, called the Still Project, discusses everything that we have gone through and provides some valuable education on still births. After the loss of our son we were inundated with questions about the autopsy, viewing him, the burial, etc. and we were completely unprepared for all of these next steps so some of our decisions may have been rushed. We don’t want another couple to potentially rush important decisions while also trying to properly grieve. We also never knew how common still births actually are. We, like many other expecting parents, thought that once you’re past the first 3 months then you’re in the clear. This is not necessarily true; about 1 in 100 pregnancies will end with the death of a baby to stillbirth or about 30,000 per year in the United States alone. My wife and I never knew this and the Still Project provides valuable information like this for anyone considering having children in the future. If anyone wants to know our full story my amazing wife Cristina De Francesco has poured her heart out in a recent post on her blog explaining everything. You can find the post below.
