I never thought I would become the type of person who is troubled by mindless calls to violence. It just really bothers me when the immediate answer to anything is violence. It doesnt seem to matter what the offense is, violence has invariably become the answer. Rather than seek an equitable solution, folks just want to punch and hurt each other. I have worked so hard to work through my own rage and now I see so much of it around me. Without benefit of trial or confrontation, people want to visit their own form of justice on others for the perceived offenses. While I can understand the feelings of anger and fear that drive these sentiments, they are counter to the Judeo-Christian values I am told we use to hold our society together. People tell me they follow a Prince of Peace or Religion of Peace but all I see are people who want to shoot first and ask questions later. I have struggled for so long to find peace within myself and I still suffer from my own issues but I really find this aggression in others to be troubling. Some people would argue that its just rhetoric and that most people wouldnt follow through with it. Sure, but that rhetoric must be borne of something inside these people. Also, I KNOW that there are people who simply let their first do the talking because they feel justified. As I said, I never thought I would be the man to write words like this. I always thought I would be the one who simply punched and kicked and never thought about things like peace. Im tired of fighting and I am tired of seeing people fighting. Everything is a fight these days. No one seeks wisdom or peace. People claim to be interested in justice but all they want is vengeance. Justice is tempered and even while vengeance is fraught with emotion and devoid of thought for consequences. I dont really see an end to this so I dont really know what I can or will do. I just had to express this because it has been causing me to distress.
