I no longer live in South Boston but I am involved with many - TopicsExpress

I no longer live in South Boston but I am involved with many groups in Southie and do my best to give back to a community that I love and cherish. I can not stand the controversy surrounding the parade mainly because it is bigotry hidden behind a fake agenda of Family Values. My feeling is that the dinosaurs that run the parade are stuck in their 15 minutes of fame gained by being on 60 Minutes and their words that they dont allow groups to promote their agenda is a big lie. Every politician has a political agenda, every Catholic Marching Band has a symbol of their faith on their flags. Two Catholic Schools say they will pull out if the Gay Veterans are allowed to march in uniform but what would they do if they were asked to march and remove all verbiage or symbols regarding their religion? I believe in tolerance and would rather pass on that value than pass on the value of bigotry and elitism. For those that keep saying this isnt about being gay your right, it is about being fair and tolerant of everyone. The veterans marching in this parade fought to uphold constitutional rights and freedom. They didnt fight to promote bigotry. For those that say South Boston has right to chose who marches then take a vote, put it out for selection and see where the majority falls on this one. Oh no! It will never happen because on group of people the parade organizers pretend to speak for all of South Boston.
