I normally dont enter into too many religious or political issues, particularly on Facebook....but... I HATE when people tell me to have a blessed day. Probably because most people dont understand blessings very well. Or maybe because it sounds off to me somehow. Or maybe just because its hard to order someone to be blessed. Perhaps Im just a little cracked...:-) Its not that I dont want to have a good day, but the phrase always seems contrived to me. Im not really sure why. Wiccans say, Blessed be. Did Christians pick up on that? Or perhaps since mentioning Gods name is politically incorrect, this have a blessed day is supposed to somehow convert those who dont know Him? I was forgiven once by a human (just a run-of the mill human, too...not even a priest or preacher or anything) in a church service and that, too, made me uneasy. That whole church service was a completely different experience, but thats a story for another day. This is a good article that doesnt go into the blessed day phenomenon of late, but it does shed some light on blessings and how we use (or perhaps I should say misuse) the term.
