I notice that Acorn TV, which streams a lot of British stuff at a low subscription rate, will be offering the complete RSC series, PLAYING SHAKESPEARE. For anybody who cares about Shakespeare, this is heady stuff. John Barton leads nine episodes exploring aspects of approaching and interpreting the texts featuring many of the leading players of the time when he recorded it in 1982. Some of them, of course, are still leading players of our time -- Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, David Suchet. Its thrilling stuff (Stewart and Suchet in an episode I call Duelling Shylocks is particularly exciting) and, I think, worth trying out Acorns service for.
