I notice you are a candidate for Beverley Ward at the coming - TopicsExpress

I notice you are a candidate for Beverley Ward at the coming Charles Sturt Council election. Im a Beverley Ward elector on the supplementary roll. As you may know, I and 4715 other voters in Charles Sturt support the re-opening of Barton Road, North Adelaide, to motorists and cyclists. Nine hundred and forty four of these are in the Ward you are contesting. One of the schemes for re-opening Barton Road relies on a change to statute law to force the Adelaide City Council to seek permission for continued closure from the adjacent, affected Council, namely, Charles Sturt. That is why the attitude of Charles Sturt councillors to continued closure is so important. You can read the Parliamentary debate on my private members bill in Hansard, starting on 10 November, 2011, and follow the discussion in the minutes of the Charles Sturt Council on 13 May, 2013. I am writing to each of the incumbent councillors who has not already declared his or her position on Barton Road by voting or speaking in public. Im also writing to each person who has declared his or her candidacy for one of the Charles Sturt wards. Would you please consider giving me a written pledge to support the re-opening of Barton Road ? I plan to write, entirely at my own expense, to those 944 Beverley Ward voters who have been in touch with me in support of re-opening Barton Road to explain where Charles Sturt Council candidates stand on Barton Road. You would be aware that the Liberal Party supports permanent closure of Barton Road for the benefit of a few North Adelaide residents. You would also be aware that Mayor Kirsten Alexander is on the record opposing re-opening Barton Road to motorists and cyclists. Although Mayor Alexander claims that you are one of her two candidates in Beverley Ward, I hope that would not pre-empt your decision.
