I often ask myself in moments of grief – isnt it enough that - TopicsExpress

I often ask myself in moments of grief – isnt it enough that Allah (swt) is a Witness over all things? When Musa (as) was afraid that Pharoah would kill him or reject him and his brother Harun, Allah (swt) said to him: Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see (20:46). In another chapter, when Musa explains that he is afraid Pharoah will kill him, Allah (swt) says: No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening. The beauty of it is that Allahs Sight and Hearing are not like our sight and hearing. We see and hear, then forget, or are unable to act upon what we have witnessed. But that which Allah (swt) sees and hears is not forgotten. He sees all – that which is apparent and that which is hidden, and will come to the aid of those who are fighting with everything they have to hold onto patience and perseverance. He knows without having to be told or reminded, and He raises the status of those who strive. He hears and responds to those who call upon Him, again and again. That is a promise and Allah does not forsake His promises. How comforting that it is Allah (swt) who is with us, not just as a passive observer, but as a witness who will grant us peace and tranquility in difficulty (after hardship, there is ease). He will bring forth all of our suffering – for He has not forgotten, though others have – and we will watch our evil deeds erased on the Day of Reckoning for the calamities that we bore with patience. Do not fear, do not grieve. How can you abandon hope while knowing that when there are three of you, Allah is the fourth, when there are two of you, Allah is the third? And when you are by yourself – so alone that your heart feels as though everyone else has vanished from the earth – you arent actually just one, because He is the second. Musa (as) was afraid! One of the greatest men to walk the earth, and yet he was afraid. You, too, are human. And He knows that you, too, are afraid. But Musa (as) was not chastised for his fear, rather Allah (swt) responded simply that He was with them as a witness, seeing and hearing. And that statement was enough for them. It was enough to make them move forward on their journey with confidence. So I tell myself, it is enough that Allah is a witness over all things – that He is the Keeper of secret pains and the Knower of the seeds of sorrow that are planted within the heart. It is enough that He is with us, hearing and seeing the difficulties in our paths. It must be enough solace and healing to know that He is a Witness over all things. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing (42:11).
