I often feel as Chairman that I have to somehow justify exactly how Doha RFC benefits the the expat community here in Qatar. Well, this weekend is a perfect example of what DRFC , and rugby in general, cans and does offer the members of this proud club.... Last night a second string Vets team enjoyed victory over a college development side. Today, 100 members of our Minis and Youth section (under 8s to under 16s) travel to Bahrain to play in a Battle of the Clubs competition. Joining them is a Ladies team playing a development side from Bahrain. At the same time the Vets 1st team will play against the golden oldies and continue a rivalry that stretches back nearly 40 years. The senior mens 2nd XV are in Muscat to start a tough 3 month campaign, playing some quality 1st team opposition. And finally the 1st XV start their Top 6 campaign at home to Abu Dhabi Harlequins, the team we lost to in the final of the Dubai 7s. As always they will be cheered on by a crowd of 400 partisan supporters - our very own maroon platoon. So all in all, nearly 750 people will be either representing or supporting Doha Rugby Football Club this weekend...not bad for a club that started on a beach with jumpers for posts.
