I often say to patients we arent designed to walk upright, we are better suited to walking like a Gorilla. If we all walked around with the relaxed and slightly flexed posture of a gorilla we would get funny looks and quite possibly people wouldnt want to sit next to you on the train. So what we need to do is look after our posture the best way we can, there are many ways we can do this but here is a couple of suggestions... firstly, dont try to do the military posture of chest out shoulders back...all you achieve is tension. simply worry about your head - imagine a piece of string running up through the top of your head and it is being pulled up...lift your head and everything else follows, be proud of your height! secondly, when you stand still dont! when we stand if we lock our legs (straighten them) our back locks up too, so when you stand still try to keep your legs relaxed and even sway a little - not so much that again people dont want to be near you! just an almost imperceptible sway - this will prevent the back locking and you will be able to stand without an ache kicking in. Try these 2 techniques cost nothing and may just help you relax when you move. But if in doubt ask us... Enjoy your weekend and hopefully you have sharpened those elbows for black friday!
