I once had a mentor who taught me to look at the glass as half - TopicsExpress

I once had a mentor who taught me to look at the glass as half full. Life can be tough and overwhelming. People can choose to be mean or cruel but it is the individual person who can make a difference in the lives of many, including their own. When our class was so bad that we were kicked out of music class, this teacher took on the role of music teacher and made it into a music lesson, a history lesson, a cultural lesson. When we had an essay to do, this teacher played a CD with sounds of the ocean, sprayed water, and passed around containers of sand. We were enveloped in the project and it became more than a paper. These are just two of the examples that taught me that if you look at life with the right perspective most things can turn out better than you could imagine. We all have the capacity to judge. There are things that we do that others would judge us harshly for and vice versa, but if we were all more compassionate and attempted to view all sides before judging someone, we might learn something. Clinical depression is not a choice. It is an illness, an every day battle. Some win, some lose. If we support instead of criticize more may win. And to that teacher who made such an impression on my life, thank you. You were, and always will be an inspiration to all of the lives you have touched.
