I once met a very old lady in Dublin, Ireland, who volunteered to show me and my then girlfriend Liza to a restaurant. Starting out for the restaurant, she immediately asked us if we were believers, and was somewhat satisfied that at least one of these two foreigners turned out to be sort of a Greek Orthodox (that was Liza). I then proceeded to ask the kind old lady if she was Catholic or Protestant. And suddenly, with some considerable emphasis and more than a touch of fierceness, she said: I am not a Catholic!!! I am an *IRISH* Catholic!!! Rather taken aback, I refrained from investigating the matter any further. Now, however, in the preface of the book An Old Womans Reflections, collecting a number of autobiographical stories told orally by Irish story-teller Peig Sayers, Ive come across this rather interesting, medieval, Irish poem/prayer, all dealing with the people whove gone to Heaven and the Holy Family. Now, let me ask you - is there any other branch of Christianity in the entire world, except obviously for Irish Catholicism, where one longs to see Jesus and the Holy Family drink beer out of a lake of beer for all eternity? I would like to have the men of Heaven In my own house; With vats of good cheer Laid out for them. I would like to have the three Marys, Their fame is so great. I would like people From every corner of Heaven. I would like them to be cheerful In their drinking, I would like to have Jesus, too, Here amongst them. I would like a great lake of beer For the King of Kings. I would like to be watching Heavens family Drinking it through all eternity.
