I once saw the conquest of Mexico acted out by lizards: a Jodorowsky Film. I sat on Toaga beach in Samoa, the ridges of the mountain at the foreground like a giant knife threatening easy-mark clouds. A conquistador lizard next to me for company; he had said he was the reincarnation of an ancient priest. I did not doubt him. He wore an invisible headdress, an amulet of purest gold, and his skin was translucent blue. Poseidon appeared in the dredges of the surf, more fish then God: an unreasonable beast. An illusion perhaps? As did the surf come in, so did waves upon waves of fear hit my skull. My reptilian brain nearly drowned in chemicals not nameable. My lizard friend was calm, his sagely look went through me and told me all I needed to know: The Greek Gods have gone mad due to neglect of homage, they are now as dumb as beasts, and no harm can they do to sons of the ocean. The lizard also warned me that my Euro-centric mind would lead to ruin.
