I only met Joan twice, and it is ironic to me how easily people vilified her without knowing her. On stage she was a killer--hilarious, innappropriate, and vulgar. Offstage she was very sweet and extremely generous. The last time I saw her, she did 90 minutes of standup--for free--at a benefit for military families--and she was 78 years young.
