I opposed the Suez war, I opposed the Falklands war. I opposed the - TopicsExpress

I opposed the Suez war, I opposed the Falklands war. I opposed the Libyan bombing and I opposed the Gulf war and I never believed that any of those principled arguments lost a single vote - indeed, I think they gained support though that was not why you did it. What has been lacking in Labour politics over a long period is a principled stand - 1992. Quote from Tony Benn, and sadly his words still ring true. We are passing out of an age of what I call real politicians. These are people who lived a life, had a passion for change, and were prepared to stand and up be counted. What we have now are power grabbing sycophants who are more concerned with their expense sheet, image and the potential earnings from after career memoirs. Local politics is now indistinguishable from central government, so those of us who bother to vote are now poorly represented. I do not believe there are people of Mr Benns calibre coming up from the grass roots right now. A very sad day indeed.
