I paint happy pleasant scenes. But I am deeply moved by the sadness of the stories of the Government run Residential Schools. I contemplating a series of paintings about that story, but its hard. Its been difficult to make myself do what I envision in my mind. Yet I know part of an artists job is to tell it like it is. To creat a lasting record. I think of the priests who were monsters in black robes. I am afraid that what I will paint, while not graphic, will upset a lot of people. Even if I do what is on my mind I may not even show it. Just keep them in my private collection. But the story needs to be told. Thats my conviction. The scary part of being a true artist.
